Wilin Rosario is trying to end a disappointing seas

DENVER - Wilin Rosario is trying to end a disappointing season with a strong finish. He got off to a good start in the Colorado Rockies fight to stay out of the cellar. Rosario hit a two-out, two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning and the Rockies rallied to beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 7-6 on Thursday night. Rosario finished with four hits to lift the Rockies into a fourth-place tie with Arizona in the NL West. "Hes been through a challenging year but hes worked hard and he has a great attitude," manager Walt Weiss said. "Hes battled through some physical things. Its good for Wilin. Its a big night for him." Corey Dickerson led off the ninth with a single against Addison Reed (1-7). Two outs later Rosario, hit a towering drive an estimated 447 feet into the seats in left on the first pitch to give the Rockies their third straight win. Rosario raised his arms triumphantly after the first walk-off home run of his career. "I hit the ball good. I got that pitch up in the zone and I did my thing. When I see the outfielder running back hard I said, If he catches it we lost. If it hits the stands we win." The Diamondbacks blew a five-run lead to deny starter Vidal Nuno his first win since coming to Arizona in a July 6 deal with the New York Yankees. Nuno allowed three runs on eight hits and struck out eight in 5 1-3 innings. "I felt bad for Nuno. He pitched very good for us," Arizona manager Kirk Gibson said. "We couldnt hold him. And finally got walked off." LaTroy Hawkins (4-3) pitched a perfect top of the ninth. Michael Cuddyer homered among his three hits for the Rockies. Jordan Pacheco and Ender Inciarte each had two hits and two RBIs for the Diamondbacks. Arizona came into the weekend series a game ahead of Colorado, which has been in the cellar since the All-Star break. The Rockies are trying to avoid a third straight last-place finish. "Its been a tough year for the team in general. Right now we showed us and the world we can play baseball here," Rosario said. "We come back, we fight, we do everything we have to, and for me thats finishing strong." Colorado rookie Yohan Flande was pulled after five innings and failed to get his first win in his ninth major league start Arizona fell behind 1-0 on Cuddyers eighth home run leading off the second. Inciartes two-run single in the third gave the Diamondbacks a 2-1 lead, and then they scored four more in the sixth. The Rockies made it close with two runs in the sixth and two more in the eighth. Josh Rutledge lined out to right with two on and two out to end the eighth. WALKING THE WALK Rosarios game winner may have been his first walk-off home run but the Rockies have had plenty of success in their last at-bats. It was the ninth time this season theyve won on a walk-off hit and the fourth time it has come on a home run. Drew Stubbs was the last to do it when he hit a three-run shot against Cincinnati on Aug. 17. HARD LUCK PITCHER Nuno has pitched well enough in 12 starts for the Diamondbacks to earn a win, it just hasnt happened. Before allowing six runs to San Diego on Sept. 12 he had gone five starts allowing two runs or fewer. Still, he hasnt been able to crack the win column in the NL. TRAINERS ROOM Diamondbacks: RHP Daniel Hudson will be shut down for the rest of the season. He pitched an inning in relief against San Diego on Sept. 3 after missing more than 26 months due to two Tommy John surgeries. He had two more relief appearances and manager Kirk Gibson he had no setbacks. "Not because of an injury, just because hes come back from a long rehab process," Gibson said. "We were thinking four appearances (and) he got through three. Liked what we saw." Rockies: 3B Nolan Arenado is done for the year because of a bruised chest and pneumonia. "That pneumonia is going to zap him for a while," manager Walt Weiss said. "Even when hes feels like hes ready to go, he is going to be short-winded out here." UP NEXT Diamondbacks: RHP Chase Anderson (9-6) will make his final start of the season. He held the Padres to two runs in five innings Saturday and has now logged a career-high 148 1-3 innings. Rockies: RHP Jordan Lyles (6-3) will try for his first career win against the Diamondbacks. He is 0-2 in five starts against them, three while he was with Houston. Lynchs touchdown came after Eagles running back LeSean McCoy fumbled on the first play from scrimmage in the third quarter and extended Seattles lead to 17-7. Were high on confidence because we put the work in during the week, said Wilson. Later, in another key sequence in the fourth quarter, the Seahawks dodged a bullet after Lynch lost a fumble for the first time this season. Tharold Simon intercepted Eagles quarterback Mark Sanchez on the next play, protecting Seattles 10-point lead. The Seahawks (9-4) controlled the game more than the score showed, holding Chip Kellys fast-paced offense to just 139 yards in 18 minutes of possession to get their third win in a row. Ill give them credit, said Kelly, the Eagles coach. They did a hell of a job on defense. The Eagles (9-4) had a 10-game regular season home winning streak snapped and fell into a tie with Dallas for first place in the NFC East nine days after beating the Cowboys convincingly on Thanksgiving. The Seahawks, who were also coming off a win over division rival San Francisco on Thanksgiving, remained a game behind Arizona in the NFC West. Wilson was 22-of-37 passing for 263 yards and two touchdowns and scrambled for a 26-yard score in the first half that countered an early Eagles touchdown. Lynch rushed 23 times for 86 yards -- going over 1,000 yards for the fourth season in a row -- and Doug Baldwin had five catches for 97 yards and a score. Sanchez completed just 10 of his 20 passes for 96 yards in his fifth straight start for the injured Nick Foles. He threw touchdown passes to Jeremy Maclin and Zach Ertz, but McCoy ran for just 50 yards on 17 carries against a stout Seattle front four. Philadelphias division lead disappeared with the loss, which came three days after Dallas beat the Bears on Thursday night in Chicago. The Cowboys will visit Philadelphia for a key game next Sunday night. The Eagles were held to 67 yards of offense in the first half and McCoy lost a fumble when he was stripped by linebacker K.ddddddddddddJ. Wright and safety Earl Thomas dove into the pile to get the ball. That led to Lynchs 15-yard touchdown reception for Seattles 17-7 lead. The Eagles cut their deficit to three points after two big plays: Josh Huffs 46-yard kickoff return -- Seattle thought he fumbled, but lost the challenge -- and Sanchezs 35-yard touchdown pass to Ertz, who made the catch near the left sideline behind Wright and stumbled into the end zone. But a 44-yard pass interference penalty on the Eagles helped the Seahawks push their lead to 24-14 on Wilsons 23-yard touchdown strike to Baldwin, who beat Malcolm Jenkins to get open with nine minutes left in the third quarter. Linebacker Mychal Kendricks got a helmet on the ball to force Lynchs fumble in the fourth, which was recovered by the Eagles at their own 30. But Sanchez threw behind Riley Cooper on the next play and Simon easily picked it off. On another missed Philadelphia opportunity, Jenkins jumped a pass intended for tight end Tony Moeaki and nearly had an interception with momentum that might have carried him to the end zone. Instead, Seattle punted, then sacked Sanchez two times on Philadelphias final possession. The Seahawks gave up seven points after punter Jon Ryan dropped the ball and the Eagles recovered it at the Seattle 14, leading to Sanchezs 1-yard pass to Maclin on the left side for a 7-0 lead with 3:37 left in the first quarter. The Seahawks responded with an 82-yard drive, tying the score when Wilson scored untouched on a 26-yard scramble on the second play of the second quarter after faking a handoff. Wilson had two big completions on 3rd-and-long plays near the end of the half, hitting Baldwin and Paul Richardson for 20-yard gains to set up Steven Hauschkas 44-yard field goal for a 10-7 lead going into the break.
